You Gotta Have Art … AND Animals !

art_pup_smallThe Kubiak Gallery will be celebrating it’s second season with a fund raiser for Wish Bone Pet Rescue, in support of the Allegan County Animal Shelter.

Gallery artists and local merchants will be donating art and gift certificates for a silent auction and other activities. Christine Elise McCarthy, actress and photographer, will donate her favorite pet photos. Christine is remembered for her role as the edgy love interest of Brandon Walsh on “Beverly Hills 90210.”

Gallery artist Todd Knight will be on site demonstrating how he makes his seemingly magical glass beads. Other artists will also be in attendance for this fun event!

Mark your calendar for the event of the summer. Let’s open our hearts and wallets to help all the little pets that can’t help themselves. For more information call 269.857.3200.

A Good Week at the Shelter

Well folks, you did good !

These past two weeks we placed or transferred more dogs and cats then anytime since we have been working with the Allegan County shelter.. Congratulations.

Cudos to Sue and Randy, they transferred four dogs to an east Michigan rescue, including Brutus a chocolate lab who was accepted to the Leader Dogs for the Blind !

We made a new contact with Vizsla Club of America who rescued our sweet little Rusty and delivered him to a fabulous new family all the way up in Ottawa Canada.

Susan and Michelle transported literally a boat load of puppies, lab mixes and min-pins, to Livingston County Humane society and even orchestrated emergency treatment for a puppy with parvo, from a young woman who contacted the shelter for help. Well done ladies.

Jeff and Karen transferred Tiger an Australian Shepherd mix to Livingston County Humane and Roscoe a Britney Spaniel mix to Gross Point Animal Adoption Society. We also transferred a Husky to Siberian Huskey Recsue, and two shepherds to Charmed Lifes in Monroe Michigan.

The public did it’s part too by adopting or reclaiming several dogs and cats from the shelter.

All in all some 30 dogs and cats were transferred or adopted from the shelter, leaving only 8 dogs in the shelter leading into this weekend.

And of course, I need to throw out a big appreciation hug to all our volunteers who have spent many exhausting hours at the shelter these past Saturdays. You may not realize the difference it makes in the lives of those animals. But I see it every day. When we close up on a Saturday, those kids our in clean cages, well exercised, fed, and sleeping peacefully. I wish everyday could be Saturday.. perhaps some day soon.

..a nice end to the week ! Thanks All !

Allegan County Animal Shelter Now Open Saturdays

Saturday at the ShelterWe Did It ! Wishbone Pet Rescue is helping the animals the first and third Saturday of each month at ACAS.  Wishbone ASAP ( Allegan Shelter Animal Project ) is WORKING, with the help of countless volunteers.

The shelter is a buzz with volunteers working to care for the animals.  Dogs & cats are being groomed, scanned for micro-chips, pictures taken for website postings, kennels cleaned and dogs walked several times a day.  Seeing the facility grounds dotted with dogs “walking” our volunteers is quite a site.

But two Saturdays a month is NOT enough.  We can do it every Saturday with YOUR help.  More Volunteers, means more Saturdays that we can be open.

Join Wishbone ASAP TEAM and make YOUR shelter a clean, compassionate, temporary respite for homeless pets while they await their forever home.

Come join the fun on our next Saturday open house!  Please call 800-475-0776 or e-mail
